Dear Flood,
Why did you clink and clank on people's roofs? You made people worried! Where are all the animals? You are not so nice because you made children get rescued from camp and they were having so much fun! Why did you do that? Why? And what do you do all day? Please don’t come back.
From your angry friend,
Chloe

Dear Flood,
Why did you flood right where I have camp?
Did you have to overflow people’s gutters?
Why did you choose to cause havoc?
It’s summer, not winter!
Did you have to close the roads?
Why did you lose the animals, it’s all your fault! How did you get the water so high?
From a frustrated writer,
Isabelle

Dear Flood,
Why can’t you rain in different places that need rain? In summer, we are supposed to have lots of sun! Now all the cows and sheep on farms have been washed away! Who told you to come to New Zealand? Where did you get all that rain from? You have even ruined a school camp! Now more than 10 schools have to close down! Instead, could you rain a little bit at a time?

Rosie

Dear Flood,
Why did you flood camps?
Why did you overflow homes?
Why did you wash away animals?
Why did you destroy homes?
I could hear you bumping on my window.

Oliver

Dear Flood,
Why did you come in a summer day when it was so lovely?
We are worried about the flood so the children can’t go to school. We spend money to buy a roof. Why did you come and it’s so dangerous. Why did you come and rain in the night? And where are the animals? Why did you make the people scared?
From,
Jessie

Dear Flood,
Why are you here? This is horrible weather! Why did you make such chaos? The farm animals swept away, the houses are overflowing, by you! Even the roads are closed! It’s so dangerous for us to have a flood, so please stop!

Sonia

Dear Flood,
Why did you rain all day and all night? You made
me go home when I was playing on the playground.
The cows got washed away, and the sheep. The plants have too much water. Why did you come to Auckland? Auckland is flooding. Why don’t you go to Africa?

Lucas

Why did you come to my home? You flooded my fish and you washed away our cows and sheep? Do not do that again, you are naughty. You flooded my bed you so you are bad. You are really bad.

Dear Flood,
Why did you come in the middle of summer?
Why did you rain all day and night?
Why did the flood have to be here?
I don’t like this because I want to go and play!
It’s chaos!
Move to Africa, they need it more!
You came crashing down like we did not know!
Will you be gone this holiday?
I love summer but you came and ruined it!
Why did you chose Auckland? Where are all the farm animals? Your storm is annoying.

Lily

Why did you come in the middle of summer? Why did you destroy homes? Why did you cause chaos to people’s back yard?
Why did you kill farm animals? You are overflowing our water and making it look like orange juice. If keep doing that we will have to boil our water.

Max

Dear Flood,
Why did you come to NZ? I heard you went to Wellington! Also, I thought you were going to wash me away! Where are all the cows? And how did you get all of this rain? And also, I hate your flash floods.

Dear Flood
On Thursday, Mrs Steele came to our class and we talked about the rain and flooding that has been happening around Auckland this week. We looked at some pictures from the newspaper.
We brainstormed words that were related to the weather and displayed them on the wall of the class.
Next, we wrote letters to the flood by writing statement and question sentences. We will publish these when they are completed.

Breakout!
This week in class we participated in a breakout. In groups, we had to look for clues around the class and solve problems to open a box that was locked with 4 different locks. We had to use thinking, problem-solving, communication skills and a lot of perseverance.
